The Palgrave Handbook of Queer and Trans Studies in Religion

Next July, The Palgrave Handbook of Queer and Trans Studies in Religion will be publishing. It’s a very interesting book for anybody interested in the history and lived experience of transgender and queer people in religion thoughout the ages. Ven. Vimala contributed the chapter “Coming to Terms with Trans- and Queerness in Buddhist Texts” together with Prof. Bee Scherer of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. This chapter details the history of LGBTIQA+ in the Early Buddhist Texts and thereafter. Prof. Scherer also wrote a chapter on the current situation in Buddhism “Queer Dharmology”.

There are also many other interesting chapters that detail the situation and history in other religions, like Islam, Judaism, Christianity, etc. The book aims to provide a complete picture of what is known about trans- and queerness in religions throughout the world. The book has over 800 pages, so it is not a quick read!

You can find the book on the sites of all online booksellers.
